Not their currency symbol, but the entire enterprise of symbolically representing currency. How about designing a special font that would only be used for monetary values. You wouldn't even need a currency symbol, then. Scratch that. Small shopkeepers who label their priced by hand would be out of luck. Unless we make something similar to the <a href="http://www.helveticafilm.com/newblog/2008/11/20/magic-pen-writes-in-helvetica/" rel="nofollow">Helvetica Pen</a>.
